KDE User Research Profiles (May 27)
An update from last time: Kopete has started their user research profile and has made some good progress by creating some user research profiles.
This update’s project call for completing their Project User Research Profiles is KOffice.

This is particularly important because of the active development of KOffice 2. Also, mine and Ellen’s Season of Usability intern for the KOffice tool palette project, Neha Pahwa, will be conducting interviews and completing a User Research Profile for the KOffice project.
Other projects who have completed or are working on their Project User Research Profiles include: Gwenview, Okular, and Plasma.

I am left a little bit wondering by this, while Gwenview, Okular, Plasma and Kopete are applications, KOffice is a suite of applications, with various different users targets. SO I guess it’s one Project User Research Profiles per application that would be needed (which makes Neha’s job harder, I guess), but also, who is supposed to fill those profiles ? Developers ?
@Cyrille: Yes, it would make sense that each KOffice application have it’s own profile, but also the entire suite of applications have a profile which acts as an umbrella and describes how different classes of users may use the KOffice applications together.
My goal is to get developers to fill the user research profile out and have a designer review them and provide feedback and additional information. Some developers are more knowledgeable about their users than others, and so some projects have an easier time filling these out than others. I encourage developers to ask questions and for feedback while they develop the profiles. I plan on periodically reviewing the existing profiles to help give developers feedback and encourage to them to keep the profile updated; it is supposed to be a living document.
