OpenSuse Survey
I’m finally reading through the OpenSuse 10.2 Survey results (PDF).
There are 3 interesting details I noticed:
- Only 2% (539/27449) of the respondents were women
- The largest group of users were regular users with competent technical skills (35.7%, basic users added another 4.6%), not system administrators (26.9%) or IT professionals (32.9%)
- Usability (4.43/5) was the third highest rated for software requirements (out of 11), after stability (4.69) and security (4.44)
A question which I wish would have been asked was how long the respondents had used Linux, to see how their Linux experience correlates with their OpenSuse experience (especially since 89% of respondents had experience with a Linux other than OpenSuse). Interesting results, regardless.

It seems a universal constant. =(
I guess that women don’t like to participate in such surveys as much as men do.
I asked a (female) friend of mine, and my sister to do that survey (who both use linux) but they said they had no interest in doing it. My dad, three male friends and I, we all did that survey instantly. So I guess you have to correct that number to at least 4%. Still a VERY low number, but at least something ;-).
It means a increase of 100%. !!!
