Lenovo V100 Screen Flicker?
Have any Lenovo owners experienced screen flickering? This is fairly recent with my V100 for about the past week or two. The backlight on my monitor has been flickering for bouts of a few seconds here and there — sometimes getting so dark the screen goes black.
I did some research to see if this is common, and I haven’t yet found any support forums with the same problem. There are accounts of screen garbage and pixel flickering due to video drivers and software problems, but none seem to be a power or connection issue. There is no distortion or color haze, just lightening and darkening of the display backlight. I haven’t cracked it open yet to check on a loose connection, but the flickering has been increasing in occurrence and intensity that I’ll probably look at it this weekend.
Grrr…

I’d recommend asking on forum.thinkpads.com if you haven’t already.
On a very different laptop I had such flickering when the battery was running low; which I guess is because the backlight took more power then my old battery could give.
If this only happens when you are on battery; then you might only be seeing the effect of it getting lazy and not a (new) problem in your backlight.
Just a thought. Good luck!
I’m on a Lenovo 19″ widescreen (on my desktop) atm, and i’ve never experienced anything like that. Having said that, it’s only 2 months old.
Which driver are you using? On my laptop I have flickering of with the ATI driver and no flickering with the open source driver.
I’ve gotten flickering on a T43 (practically brand new) where the screen eventually wouldn’t “work” any longer and it was all black. Turns out the backlight burnt out on mine (luckily, it was for work and all they did was drop my HD into a new machine, but still…)
sounds like a broken backlight…
@TZ
I’m plugged in when this happens
@Seb
This is only 7 months old
@Christoph
I noticed on some forums that the ATI driver was a problem, but this happens in Linux with the OS driver
@elwing
That’s what I’m afraid of :(
With all my years as a dell and ibm tech, this is usually a sign of the backlight on the lcd slowly going bad. Call it in and get it replaced before it goes totally. It sounds like a short or a loose connection. If you are daring, take off the screen, and pop the case, one of the ribbon cables might just be loose. But a warning Lenovo/IBM laptops are not fun to work on. A Dell would take me 45 min to do a full rebuild on, an IBM laptop, 2 hours.
Let me know if you learn anything, my Lenovo v100 is doing the same. I found that it happens sometimes when i take the power cable out, but stops when I plug it back in. Also, it fixes it if I close the lid for a second, then open it again, it is very weird.
