Tux 500

Tux 500 is raising money to get a Linux logo on an Indy 500 car. I’m not big in to car racing, but it was a neat enough idea for me to donate lunch money (OK, so it was a big lunch..).

OpenSuse Survey

I’m finally reading through the OpenSuse 10.2 Survey results (PDF).

There are 3 interesting details I noticed:

  • Only 2% (539/27449) of the respondents were women
  • The largest group of users were regular users with competent technical skills (35.7%, basic users added another 4.6%), not system administrators (26.9%) or IT professionals (32.9%)
  • Usability (4.43/5) was the third highest rated for software requirements (out of 11), after stability (4.69) and security (4.44)

A question which I wish would have been asked was how long the respondents had used Linux, to see how their Linux experience correlates with their OpenSuse experience (especially since 89% of respondents had experience with a Linux other than OpenSuse). Interesting results, regardless.

Are you an “Information Expert”?

I am looking for information architects, information designers, and any other information experts out there to volunteer an hour or so of their time during the month of May 2007 to help evaluate information structures from an IA-related study. If you are able and willing, please fill out this form and I will contact you if you are chosen as an expert reviewer.

(This is for my graduate thesis project at the University of Baltimore. I am researching better ways to do card sorting to benefit information design.)

It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere

One of the benefits of being a consultant is if you get all your work done early in the morning, a two-martini lunch can turn in to a really long happy hour.

18 days, 3 research projects, 2 usability studies, and 1 presentation until the semester is over.
