More Heat for FEMA.gov
Most of my morning was spent going through the last 50 or so press releases we published, making sure they pass W3C validation. Beleive it or not, we here at the FEMA Web Team actually care if pages are accessible, validate, work in ALL browsers.. if we didnt, I wouldnt be here.
But you know, our deparment consists of contractors. We cant make decisions, change or remove content without approval, and can only suggest solutions to problems. Somehow, along with everyone else in the agency, were getting attacked. Its not our fault!
First off, theyre not even reporting the facts. Only, ONLY the registration page requires Internet Explorer 6.0. Almost every other page validates and is accessible, and they all work in all browsers. With or without Javascript, with or without images, and with or without CSS.
Yes, people, FEMA.gov works in ALL browsers sans the web application. I take personal offence to the reporters who are so god damn lazy to check their facts before jumping on the “FUCK FEMA” bandwagon. Fuck you guys and go back to journalism school and learn how to do research.
The issue is with registration only (I know it is a very major piece of information we provide right now). There is a lot internal conflict about how that came to be, and it was out of our hands. It does work if you change your user-agent. I dont know when it is going to be fixed. FEMA.gov is not endorsing Microsoft in anyway. Were trying to resolve this the best way we can, but these things take time.
