The Cost Of Christmas

PNC Bank [Pittsburgh] has posted its annual Cost of The 12 Days of Christmas. The survey is not all novelty, the comparisons show economic growth or regression from the previous year. It is also interesting to see how buying flora and fauna on the internet can be more expensive than material goods and human services.

Microsoft Promotes Idiocy In Tech World

An essay written by information theorist Edward Tufte is featured in this article in the New York Times. According to Tufte, Microsoft’s product forces users to “mutilate data beyond comprehension”. Powerpoint is included in Microsoft’s Office Suite, of which is used by millions of businesses worldwide.

I’ve used Powerpoint and I’ve seen Powerpoint presentations created by corporations and government which are incomprehensible. Is it that businesses arn’t sure how to create flashy presentations without it, or that they need someone with information and design training to create their slides? Perhaps businesses are too reliant on what technologies are given to them on a silver platter by Microsoft, and should be looking at alternative ways in creating informative visual presentations.
